National Nurse’s Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, the birthday of Florence Nightingale.
National Nursing Assistant Week will be celebrated June 12 – 19
The Pennyroyal Hospice nurses and nurse aides are the face, hands, and heart of compassion to our patients. These professionals are the friends our patients and their families see and connect with on a daily basis. They selflessly serve our patients to provide compassionate care, comfort, and relief from physical, emotional and spiritual pain. Our patients and caregivers know they can depend on their Pennyroyal Hospice Nurse and Nursing Assistant not only for their daily medical and personal care needs, but also in the middle of the night, in all kinds of weather conditions if needed.

ABOUT PENNYROYAL HOSPICE
At life’s end, there is a promise of Hope that is within the reach of patients and families who choose to take control of their situation with the help of hospice:

Hope for relief of pain and symptoms
Hope to be with loved ones in familiar surroundings
                    Hope for quality time

Pennyroyal Hospice is a nonprofit organization that serves Caldwell, Christian, Lyon, Todd, and Trigg Counties in western Kentucky. For 26 years we have been providing a very special kind of loving care for terminal patients and their families. We work with our patients and families to provide medical care and services and to ensure that patients who wish to stay in their homes can do so, and that they can maintain a quality of life during this time. Hospice affirms life and understands death as a normal part of the life cycle. We neither hasten death nor prolong life.
HOSPICE SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE TO ANYONE WHO:
·        Has, in the opinion of their attending physician, six months or less of life if their disease follows its normal course.
·        Resides in or is able to reside within Caldwell, Christian, Lyon, Todd, or Trigg Counties.
·        Has made the decision with their attending physician to seek quality of life and comfort rather than curative treatment.
·        Has a competent person willing to be trained in Hospice Care and take responsibility when the patient is unable to do so. Patients with no primary caregiver will be considered individually.
·        Agrees to the course of care jointly established by the Pennyroyal Hospice, the patient, the family and the attending physician.

HOW SERVICES ARE PROVIDED
An assigned Hospice Nurse makes regular visits and evaluates the patient’s condition. They talk regularly with the patient’s physician about appropriate continuing treatment. The nurse teaches the patient’s family and friends to be caregivers and to manage pain and other symptoms. A Hospice nurse is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to any emergency.
Professional Home Health Aidsare available up to 5 days per week to change bed linens and provide personal care such as bathing assistance, shaving, nail care, shampooing and dressing.
A Chaplain consults with and assists the patient and their families with spiritual concerns, complimenting the patient’s own minister when appropriate.
Trained Volunteers are available to assist the patients and their families with household activities or to stay with the patient so the caregiver can attend to personal affairs such as going shopping, to the bank or just to get away for a while.
Bereavement Counselors help the family through the transition period for at least 13 months following the patient’s death. Hospice provides educational home visits and periodic written materials and phone calls. Grief workshops are available.

If you or your loved one has a terminal illness and would like to be cared for at home by our compassionate staff, talk to your doctor about Hospice Care.
