Yes, you guessed it ... Carrie Utter is not from around here! Carrie is originally from northern Illinois and comes to Cadiz via Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism in 1996, and got her start in radio as a news reporter for an AM radio station in Sycamore, Illinois. From there, Carrie moved on to do FM radio and television news in Rockford, Il, and the Chicago suburbs, before heading South. There, Carrie decided to take a shot at working in a major market. She started as an afternoon drive producer and assistant music director on 95.5 The Beat in Atlanta in 2000, before being promoted to Morning Show Co-Host later that year.
Interesting tidbit ... Carrie's morning show, Woody and the Morning Beat, broadcasted just two studios over from nationally syndicated radio hosts Neal Boortz and Clark Howard in the Cox Radio facility downtown Atlanta. In fact, Carrie's office was right across the hall from Boortz!
As the story often goes in major market radio, the station format changed at the Beat and with it ... so did the morning show ... leaving Carrie unemployed and pregnant in Georgia ... sounds like a country song, doesn't it? So she took a break from radio for a while, and brought her first child, Sam, into the world in 2002. Wanting to bring the little guy up closer to home and family, they moved to Cadiz, Kentucky, in 2003.
Carrie has been a part of the WKDZ/WHVO crew in different capacities over the last three years, returning to the airwaves in May of 2007 with her own afternoon show, "On the Air with Carrie." A couple of months later ... she came on board full time, and served in the news department as the Noon and 5:00 p.m. News Anchor. Currently, Carrie continues to host her popular live afternoon show on WKDZ, serves as Associate News Director, anchors the Noon News, and produces "Hoptown this Morning" on WHVO.
And by the way, son, Sam, just started Kindergarten [was harder on Mom than Sam], and a little sister, Sadie, has been added to the family ... along with two cats, Tim and Tom, and a fish named Bob the Beta.
"On the Air with Carrie" can be heard weekdays 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Carrie loves taking your requests (e-quests via email too - carrie@wkdzradio.com) and talking with you on the air. Listen for your chance to call (270) 522-1212. |
