March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and the Jennie Stuart Ambulatory Surgery Campus is proud to offer the services of several highly qualified and experienced doctors, surgeons and a Board-Certified Gastroenterologist who perform colonoscopies and endoscopies at the 
campus.
Although colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death in this country, it is highly preventable, beatable and treatable.
The recommended age to have a colon cancer screening is 50, but African Americans are at a higher risk of getting the disease and should be screened at age 45. For those who have a family history of colon cancer, a colonoscopy should be performed 10 years earlier than the initial diagnosis of the inflicted family member. For example, if your mother had colon cancer at 45, then you should be screened at 35.
